Biltmore Estate (Asheville, NC)

Updated: Aug 5, 2021

What to Bring?

Stroller Friendly?

Mostly, Not Allowed in House

Bathrooms

Easy access bathrooms throughout the Estate, no bathrooms in House

The biggest tip is to start your day at the House & Gardens, planning your tour time for your infant’s morning nap! The day will be full & long, so starting your day in the hour-long house tour helps your little ones from being cranky & inattentive. We got there a little early, which was just enough time for a short garden stroll before our tour. Be sure to check out the choo-choo trains in the conservatory! Also, with no bathrooms inside the house, make sure to allow time to fit in a bathroom break & diaper change before your tour. With no bags allowed inside, I just brought a small “fanny pack“ that velcros to my baby carrier with an extra diaper & a few wipes to eliminate the need for a big diaper bag.

Our tour then began at 10:00 am & we were very fortunate that our infant slept in the carrier the entire time! We talked to our daughter ahead of time about keeping hands to herself & she made us so proud! We even received compliments on their behavior, being some of the only small kids on the tour. No strollers are allowed in the house, but they can be left outside the door. We left our stroller in the car because of this, but if I had to do it all over again I’d bring it along for the gardens!

Since littles can only be good for so long, the toddler meltdown happened at the perfect time as we were leaving the estate. If your toddler loves Daniel Tiger or trolleys, park farther away than parking lot A (no trolley rides to this lot) to avoid the same meltdown we had! Ha! This was perfect timing though to head to the next area of the estate, Antler Hill Village! And yes, the winery is a very small portion of the most family friendly part of the estate. It’s about a 15 minute drive from the House but a great place to spend the afternoon.

We went immediately to the playground, which had a nice shade for a picnic lunch! There were picnic tables nearby too but it was nice to have a space for our newly crawling infant to spread out & play. We spent over an hour letting both kids play, run off energy, and make new friends. Then, we toured the farm area, animals, & the icecream parlor. All of this was located in the same area & was easy access by stroller. Like most of the food at Biltmore, the icecream was pricey but well worth it! Plus, it was a nice bribe to use when needed. The afternoon was such a nice & low key way to finish our day at Biltmore!

Purchase tickets to Biltmore here! The biggest perk is that our little guys were FREE!
